This baptismal font is found in a church in rural Germany in the city of Emlichheim in Grafschaft Bentheim. It is in the Evangelische Reformierte Kirche (the Evangelical Reformed Church). It is approximately 800 years old. One question that is frequently debated is whether infant baptism had it origins in New Testament times, or whether it originated later in church history. Dialogos material at this point limits itself to what is to be found in the pages of Scripture. Not very many fonts such as this one have survived in such good shape. Many of them were severely damaged at the time of the Reformation.  It is very possible that over twenty generations of the ancestors of one of the authors of this website were baptized at this font.
